From the museum studio in Harlem: Black refractions
«Black refractions»Presents works in all media outlets of nearly eighty artists, dating back to the 1920s, and represents almost a century of creative achievements of artists of African descent. Noting the role of the museum-studio in Harlem as a place for a dynamic exchange of ideas about art and society, this landmark exhibition offers many stories about black art products and different approaches to understanding these works. The exhibition, organized by the American Federation of Arts and the Studio Museum in Harlem, demonstrates the breadth and expansion of the permanent collection of the Museum Studio and includes landmark works by artists such as Barkley Hendrix, Faith Ringgold, Lorna Simpson, Alma Thomas and many others.
