Paul Gauguin: The Art of Invention

Exhibition July 21 − September 15, 2019
Exhibition ""includes an exposition of 90 paintings, wood carvings, ceramics, prints and inscriptions that demonstrate the artist’s fascination with experiments in various media.

Gauguin created his own multifaceted artistic style, just as he developed his own special way in life. His style has evolved over time; in painting, he is best known for his experimental use of color and the flattening of space and forms, an approach that was markedly different from that seen in his early paintings of the Impressionist period. His ingenuity surpassed painting and printing.

The exhibition is based on a huge loan of 55 works by Gauguin from the outstanding collection of the Copenhagen Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek. The works presented at the exhibition will send visitors on a journey through the artistic works of Gauguin, inspired by people and cultures that he encountered during his global travels.
