Monet and the modern city

Claude Monet and his contemporaries reacted to the urban industrial landscape with works that convey strength and prospects for modernization. "Monet and the modern city"Explores the pervasive theme of industry in art, reflecting the essence of the atmospheric conditions of the modern industrial environment, which fascinated artists such as Monet, Camille Pissarro, James Whistler, Felix Bujo and Auguste Leper. Pittsburgh's own industrial aesthetics is represented by the work of the French engraver Jean-Emile Laburer Ten Pittsburgh Etchings and a grandiose view of the American steel mills Aaron Gorson, Joseph Pennell and Joseph Stella.
