Beyond the edge of paint. Gesture and materiality in post-war European art

Exhibition August 8, 2019 − February 27, 2020
The works presented at thisexhibition, reflect a number of approaches that emerged after the Second World War. Vigorous and diverse new forms of artistic expression flourished in Europe, which sought to replace society and the values that led to the horrors of war. The key event was the rejection of rationalism, which dominated art before the war. Instead, artists emphasized the importance of improvisation, gesture, and materiality in artistic practice.
