Konstantin Nikolaevich Istomin (1887–1942)- The largest Russian painter of the Soviet era, teacher. The accuracy and conciseness of compositional solutions, the generalization of forms, the sophistication and expressive expressiveness of the color scheme are the main features of Istomin's painting, a master of European cultural tradition, who created his own style and influenced the development of Russian art of the twentieth century.

Among the painters of the 1920-1930s, Istomin was the most consistent conductor of the European experience in art education, which was especially valuable in the era of the establishment of the canons of socialist realism. For a wide range of viewers, the name Istomina opened in the 1960s. In the wake of the thaw in 1961, his first solo exhibition was held, which had a great influence on artists and aroused the interest of art critics.

Due to unfavorable storage conditions, many works required serious restoration, and this fact postponed the holding of a large exhibition of Konstantin Nikolayevich Istomin for many years. Today, the need to focus on the personality of the artist, to see his works in modern exhibition halls and to clarify his landmarks in the art of the twentieth century is obvious.
