Color and plastic image

Exhibition October 30 − December 1, 2019
The Museum of Art of St. Petersburg of the XX-XXI centuries conducts a personal exhibition of a bright, original artist and sculptor Pelageya Shuriga"Color and plastic image".

The exhibition features more than 100 sculptures, graphic works (pencil, ink, charcoal, mixed media, lithography) and small forms. For the first time in such a large volume, a retrospection of the author’s work is presented, from graphic sheets of the 1920s to works of the late 1970s.

All the works of Shuriga, like objects of folk art, were created with apparent ease, without effort, organically, “from an excess of feelings”, a special state of mind, awareness of the joy of being. But through this prism of the "holiday of life" and "multicolor" we also feel the notes of tragedy - lack of demand, late recognition of the richly and versatile Pelageya Nikolaevna Shuriga, who lived at the time of the most dramatic historical changes in Russia of the twentieth century.
