Saratov State Art Museum named after A.N. Radishchev presents a large-scale exhibition
"Petersburg art of the twentieth century".
The exhibition presents to the viewer the iconic works of more than 60 Petersburg artists of different generations, whose work demonstrates the most vivid and characteristic phenomena of the city’s artistic culture on the Neva, from the collection of the Museum of Art of St. Petersburg of the XX-XXI centuries (MISP).
The pride of the collection is the works of masters of the 1920-1940s. The exhibition presents the works of both members of one of the most famous creative associations of Leningrad - The Circle of Artists (1926-1932) - Alexey Pochtenny, Alexander Rusakov, Vyacheslav Pakulin, Lydia Timoshenko, and artists close to them in spirit - Vladimir Grinberg and Nikolai Lapshin. Their art carries the energy of a purely Petersburg culture, the noble chamberness of its content. The spiritual atmosphere of this time in many respects influenced the entire further course of development of the country's art. The artistic life of Leningrad in the 1960s and 70s, with the romance inherent in this time, is revealed in the works of such outstanding artists on a creative scale as Rufim Frumak, Yuri Vasnetsov, Maria Gorokhova, Kirill Gushchin, George and Oleg Tatarnikovs.
The works from the collection of the Museum of Art of St. Petersburg of the XX-XXI centuries give the viewer the opportunity not only to get acquainted with the unique phenomenon of Leningrad-Petersburg art, to feel the atmosphere of the city at different periods of time, but also to understand the dynamics of the development of Russian culture throughout the whole of the XX century.
