Gene McEwen. Wild color

Montreal Museum of Fine Arts hosts Jean McEwen exhibition "Wild color". Presenting the artist’s creations over an almost half-century career, the project emphasizes the restrained monumentality, continuity and penetrating beauty of the work.

“There are two ways to judge a picture. One is based on the criteria and theories of art. The second is based on the sensations that we get in front of the picture. I draw in the second way, ”the author said.

Gene McEwan was born in 1923 in Montreal. He studied at Mont Saint-Louis College and at the University of Montreal. Member of the Montreal Non-Figurative Artists Association (AANFM). The artist's works are stored in the collections of the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and in private collections. He died in 1999.
