In 1880, the Hague artist Louis Apolis (1850-1936) traveled his whole life. He was part of a scientific expedition to Novaya Zemlya and spent four months aboard the polar schooner Willem Barents. As a specialist in winter landscapes, this journey provided him with a unique opportunity to study and visualize the most unusual ice formations and desert snow landscapes during a severe journey.
At the exhibition "
New Earth"presents a selection of 200 pencil drawings, sketches and watercolors that Apol made during his journey.
