The book of Job. Exhibition of works by Natalia Nesterova

Exhibition December 19, 2019 − January 14, 2020
The Open Club Gallery hosts an exhibition of Natalia NesterovaBook of Jobfrom the Old Testament cycle “Reference point”.

The exhibition presents the works of Natalia Nesterova, a classic of contemporary Russian art, based on the plot of one of the most famous books of Scripture - the Book of Job.

The cycle created by Natalia Nesterova unexpectedly resembles one of the earliest and most literal illustrative cycles of the book of Job - a 9th-century Greek manuscript stored in the Vatican Library. The simplicity and straightforwardness of the story, characteristic of both cycles of the 9th and 21st centuries, may seem similar to the naive seriousness of the children's drawing. However, both authors are characterized by epicity and significance, familiar to the modern viewer only from the works of Chagall and Kuznetsov, when the story of something great begins as if from a zero point, outside the tradition, from scratch. This is simplicity and seriousness, coming not from naivety, but from the attitude to the text and the complexity of the task.
