The Central Museum of Old Russian Culture and Art named after Andrei Rublev presents an exhibition“By the roads of Holy Russia. Icons of Russian saints from the collection of Nikolai Panitkov ".
The exhibits are grouped into separate sections devoted to various regions of the Russian state - from Moscow to the remote northern outskirts.
The exhibition is conceived as a virtual journey through ancient Russian cities, holy places and monasteries, precisely represented on the icons of Russian saints of the 17th – 19th centuries. Visitors will learn about many holy ascetics who left a noticeable mark in Russian culture and history - princes, reverends, righteous and blessed ones. One of them, John the Great Kolpak, became the prototype of the holy fool in the drama of Pushkin's “Boris Godunov”.
