Pierre Soulagege

Exhibition December 11, 2019 − March 9, 2020
The National Center for Arts and Culture of Georges Pompidou in Paris presents the exhibition "Pierre Soulagege".

December 24, 2019 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Pierre Soulage, one of the greatest artists of our time. His paintings are impressive (more than one thousand six hundred canvases) and are accompanied by other works, limited in number, but diverse in technique: paintings on paper; prints, serigraphs and lithographs; bronze products; resin on glass and the famous stained glass for the abbey of Saint Foix de Conque.

Since the end of 1946, Sulazh finally broke with the figurative image, casting doubt on historical abstraction. Sulazh chooses a very young color that bears all the rest: black. He remains very attached to him, so much so that it contributes to his artistic identity.
