"The Aeneid Project." The visual history of the legendary poem

Exhibition August 24 − October 29, 2017
National Art Museum in Kievtogether with art center "I'm Gallery"Exposition "Project Aeneid". What is noteworthy, the opening of the exhibition is timed to the Independence Day of Ukraine - after all, according to Polina Limina, one of the curators, "the celebration should also be diverse."

Ivan Kotlyarevsky, taking as a basis the poem of Virgil, created something completely original and unusual, with a unique Ukrainian flavor. The first work, written not in the Old Ukrainian language, but in the people's dialect, made an absolute revolution and opened the way for Ukrainian literature as we see it now. The poem-burlesque continues to inspire new and new generations of creators, even in our time.

The exposition presents more than 200 artifacts from 11 museums and several private collections: illustrations, theater posters, cartoon works, photo and video materials, prints, easel paintings, graphics and much more. All this allows visitors to follow the change in the visual images of the "Aeneid" since its writing in the distant 1798.

On the first floor of the museum the legendary café "Aeneas" was reconstructed by the efforts of the restaurateur Dmitry Borisov - the same thing in which the Ukrainian intelligentsia was gathered under the USSR - Lina Kostenko, Mikhail Stelmakh, Alexander Irvanets, Grigor Tyutyunnik and others. The kitchen there echoes with the pages of "Aeneid" Kotlyarevsky, and the organizers promise that "they will treat dishes that Enei himself would approve, and drinks that Zeus and Bacchus would delight in."

Exhibition "Aeneid Project"will last from August 24 to October 29.
