Lawrence’s thirty intimate panels created in the modern era of civil rights they interpret the key moments of the American revolution and the first decades of the republic’s existence between 1770 and 1817 and, as he wrote, “depict the struggle of the people for the creation of a nation and their attempts to build democracy.”
