In the exposition "
Pan-African Fiction»Botswana-based artist Meleko Mokgoshi explores the history of Pan-Africanism, a global movement uniting ethnic groups of African descent south of the Sahara.
The installation presents large-scale panels inspired by African photographs of the 1960s and 70s, a fresco exploring the complexity of black skin, posters of pan-African movements from around the world.
The renewed need for diversity and civil rights in Detroit and the country as a whole reinforces the relevance of the Mokgoshi project and brings out the deep connections between these historical movements and those that are developing today.
