In the spring and summer of 2021, the Belvedere will devote the first solo exhibition to the outstanding landscape painter Joseph Rebel.
The artist was born in Vienna in 1787 and has been working since 1813 in Naples and Rome. His paintings enjoyed great success among interested spectators throughout Europe, including in aristocratic and royal circles. The exhibition presents numerous works from public and private collections in Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland, which can now be compared for the first time with each other.
Exhibition "Where the light begins
"has about 70 paintings and 40 drawings by the artist. While the thematic focus of the exposition is mainly focused on landscapes from southern Italy, light also sheds on the early drawings of Joseph Rebel.
