Artists became friends, passionate about travel and water space, the dream of the sea. Both wrote concise, very clear division of space landscapes, filled with air and romantic mood of their creators. Ilya Katz returned from the front, having no money, no workshop, more successful George of Nyssa managed to pay for a boat with a cabin, which both of the artist "improved" and on which, as on an ocean yacht traveled the Volga river, the Klyazma reservoir. The air of the rivers, the high sky and the freedom they enjoyed – has resulted in a series of works, dedicated to the male "romance": they yacht, expanse of water and coastal cities.

Georgy Grigorievich Nissky (1903-1987) – the famous Soviet painter, full member AH the USSR, people's artist of the RSFSR, Honored art worker of the RSFSR. Graduated from the VKHUTEMAS-vkhutein, studied with R. Falk and A. Drevin. By easel graphic works close OST, Illustrator, artist in the "Windows TASS". But his fame brought her easel and monumental landscapes of the work, where the background of the open spaces he depicted the achievements of industrialization and the postwar socialist construction, imbued with romanticism "distant wanderings". "Moscow Rokada", "Autumn. Semaphores" and many other works that constitute the Golden Fund of Russian artistic culture of the mid-twentieth century. One of the researchers of the artist wrote about it: "... Nyssa, usually composes his paintings. In fact maybe there is no edge in the landscape... With a fine sense of characteristic, being able to find this characteristic in various parts of the country, and then to synthesize it into a separate picture, to give a broad generalized images, the artist uses his brilliant visual memory, natural compositional gift and well-developed imagination. The impression of some of the places seen, deeply felt and vividly experienced, is the basis of his work." And the George of Nyssa said of himself: "soulless Not to copy nature, but to be able to talk to her alone – in the sense of penetration in visible real beauty that never takes me to the search for abstract fictional forms."

Ilya L. Katz (1908-1992) - the representative of the southern Russian art school. Born in Odessa in 1908, he graduated from the Leningrad Academy of arts named. I. E. Repin. First mentor Katz was a classic Ukrainian and Russian modernism A. Haus, he later studied at the famous "Odessa Parisian" T. Fraerman. Creativity I. Katz - a synthesis of classical Russian art and French sezannistov. In Soviet Russia, to some extent, was the favorite style, a departure from socialist realism. Artists who have painted landscapes, still lifes, portraits, not were among the banned, but at the same time was rarely achieved career heights and state awards. This is the way chosen for themselves and Ilya Katz, he wrote what he liked. Ilya Katz is a man of his time. Soldier, participant of the Stalingrad battle, in the late 1930s he was appointed chief artist of the Museum-reserve "Mikhailovskoe". Then the painter took part in the design of the pavilions VDNH "Turkmen SSR", "fisheries of the Volga region" and many others, but the main theme of his work remained unchanged. About sailing Katz not only dreamed, but also embodied as much in practice — every summer with his friend, artist Georgy Nissky, floated the boat into the river and the Klyazma reservoir. To travel further, he was not able, but impressions and subjects for future works enough: the Klyazma in his works can not be distinguished from the Mediterranean sea and the port of Sevastopol is vaguely reminiscent of the Venice pier. Odessa and Leningrad, where Katz was formed as an artist, for life captivated the painter of water. He wrote the industrial landscapes of Soviet ports ("Foggy morning. Leningrad port", 1958), Stalin's Empire of the embankment of the Moscow river station ("Moscow. River station Khimki", 1954-55), a steep Bank of the river ("On Klyazma", 1950) and many other paintings depicting non-ideological portrait of the most ideological of the Russian era.
