Arithmetic of the theater 2x2 = 7

Exhibition February 22 − March 8, 2020
“ARITHMETICS OF THEATER 2X2 = 7” - an exhibition project by Andrei Bartenev dedicated to theater photography. The main emphasis is on the subject of the image and represents the whole variety of various contemporary genres of image of stage art.

The photographers participating in the exhibition differ from each other not only in tastes, but also in preferences, involvement in the process, and the duration of the shooting experience in a peculiar genre.

The exhibition aims to represent the versatility of the genre of theater photography, the difference in artistic techniques. It is important to show not “frames unified in one style, similar to each other”, but the individual work of a photo artist with material, object, space. In this case, “theatrical photography” as a captured emotion and an attempt to “stop the moment” or, conversely, the need to preserve the “documenting” theatrical art, which is unstoppable as a fact of history.

The exhibition will feature not only photography, but also a sculpture by Vladimir Amodeo and costumes for the play “The Nutcracker” by Pavel Kaplevich, Andrei Bartenev.
