Rembrandt Breakthrough in Amsterdam

Exhibition December 9, 2020 − April 5, 2021
Exhibition "Rembrandt Breakthrough in Amsterdam"for the first time will focus on the rise of Rembrandt to international fame during his years in Amsterdam.

At the center of the exhibition will be groups of closely related paintings that illustrate the role of Rembrandt and his contemporaries. Rembrandt's paintings include landscapes, genre scenes and still lifes, but primarily historical paintings and portraits.

The confrontation with his competitors shaped his artistic development, as well as his entrepreneurial ambitions. A large number of talented artists fought in Amsterdam for the attention and patronage of the rich and art-loving bourgeoisie. It was this exciting and stimulating atmosphere that made the young artist from Leiden the world-famous master who he is to this day: Rembrandt.
