Magdalena Abakanovich. Forest of soft sculptures

Exhibition June 17 − September 13, 2020
Tate Modern Gallery holds a personalexhibition of sculptures by the Polish artist Magdalena Abakanovich.

The exposition will provide a rare opportunity to get acquainted with the sculptor’s works, called “Abakans” - woven fiber sculptures, as well as drawings and sketches.

The author’s works are soft, ambiguous and organic. Polish artist Magdalena Abakanovich has created strange and revolutionary woven fiber sculptures since the early 1960s. The exhibition explores the key transformative period in Abakanovich’s work, when its woven forms came off the wall into three-dimensional space. It was with these works that she brought soft, fibrous forms to the sculpture of the 21st century.

Born in 1930 in Poland, Magdalena Abakanovich reached the heights in her creative career as an artist and sculptor, her works are included in many public and private collections around the world.
