Maria Bartuzova. Sculptures inspired by nature

Exhibition November 11, 2020 − April 18, 2021
The Tate Modern Gallery, together with the Maria Bartuzova Museum, Slovakia and the Alison Jacques Gallery, London, will organize an exhibition“Maria Bartuzova. Sculptures inspired by nature ".

The exposition presents more than 100 abstract sculptural works from the collection of museums, as well as sketches, drawings and archival photographs.

Maria Bartuzova worked for more than 30 years in isolation, due to social and personal factors, but was able to create more than 500 sculptures. Its signature material was white plaster, which gives the finished product an amazing lightness and fragility. In the 1960s, Bartuzova created her own experimental method for casting gypsum by hand. Her creative heritage is represented by pure and ephemeral works, abstract forms and reliefs. In the 1980s, Bartuzova often photographed her work in the open air to emphasize their close relationship with nature.
