Gustav van de Wuysten. Collection presentation

Exhibition July 7 − October 4, 2020
Ghent Museum of Fine Arts is preparing a large retrospectivean exhibition of works by Gustav van de Wuysten (1881-1947).

Visitors will be able to see the artist’s paintings and drawings, graphics, lithographs, archival materials, among which are the new acquisitions of the Ghent Museum. The exposition will present all the artist's works collected over more than a century of collection history.

The artist Gustav van de Woisten has been associated with the Ghent Museum for decades. Back in 1913, the museum acquired the “Portrait of Prudence de Shepper, the artist’s wife” (1910). Throughout the XX-XXI centuries, thanks to art history and private donations, the museum has become the owner of an extensive collection of the artist's works, illustrating all stages of his creative career. Gustav was obsessed with the story of his family. In several notebooks he compiled a list of genealogy, which he, with his artistic imagination, dates back to the middle of the 14th century. These notebooks are also shown and decorated in the presentation of the collection.
