Variations of realism - from Munkachi to Mednyanski

Exhibition June 22 − December 30, 2020
Hungarian National Gallery invites you to visit a large exhibition“Variations of realism - from Munkachi to Mednyansky”.

The extensive exposition includes paintings by not only such iconic artists of the 19th-20th centuries as Mihai Munkachi and Ladislav Mednyansky, but also works by Laszlo Paal, Lajos Deak Ebner, Adolf Fenies, Jozsef Costa and Gyula Rudnei.

Realist and naturalist artists were able to visualize the reality of everyday life, based on direct observation of the modern world. Mihai Munkachi in his masterpieces brought to the fore the dramatic reality of his time, and Laszlo Medniansky plunged it into the mysterious and gloomy fog of early impressionism. The exposition will lead viewers through the streets of small towns, through rural landscapes, scenes and colorful interiors of Hungarian village life, introduce the luxury of bourgeois life and the grim everyday life of urban beggars and vagrants.
