El Greco: Ambition and Disobedience

Exhibition March 7 − September 7, 2020
Art Institute of Chicago organizes large-scale exhibition"El Greco: Ambition and Defiance".

The exposition includes more than 60 large-scale paintings, panels, sculptures and graphic works of the great Greek painter.

El Greco is a cocky and ambitious author who expected his immense talents to be properly recognized and rewarded. In the middle of the 16th century, he moved to Venice and mastered the new artistic approach of the "Venetian Renaissance" by Titian and Tintoretto. El Greco's portraits, allegories and religious paintings reflect the relationship within religious circles and the author's complex relationship with Michelangelo and other luminaries of 16th century fine art.
