The Rijksmuseum invites you to visit the exhibition
"Outstanding Drawings by Italian Masters".
The exposition consists of works by great Italians, incl. Raphael, Michelangelo, Carracci, Canaletto, Barocci, Tiepolo and Piranesi.
The exhibited drawing by Raphael, using just a few lines to depict the figure and subtle shading of shadow effects, is a testament to the artist's great talent. This is a sketch of one of the prominent figures in his last and most famous painting "Transfiguration", which hangs in the Vatican museums. The painting was almost complete when Raphael died suddenly. His body was laid out in the workshop under the painting. The exhibition includes a drawing by Michelangelo Buonarroti for the equestrian statue of Henry II of France. In addition to the works of great masters, the halls of the museum display drawings by the students of Rafael Perino del Vaga and Giulio Romano.
