Endless sculpture. From ancient casts to 3D scans

Exhibition September 18, 2020 − January 25, 2021
Calouste Gulbenkian Museum holds an exhibition"Endless sculpture. From ancient casts to 3D scans".

The exhibition brings together sculptures by 18 contemporary artists and casts from the collection of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon, analyzing the relevance of casting technique in modern artistic practice and exploring its limitless possibilities.

The exhibition pays close attention to casting and the role it plays not only in sculpture, but in many aspects of the everyday world. Viewers will see the endless connections between old and new, focused primarily on the concepts of reproduction, variation, seriality, scale and memorability. This project is an opportunity to make available to the public collections from art schools, which are of growing interest among researchers and contemporary artists, but have been almost completely hidden from the public eye until now.
