Whitney Museum of American Art reopens exhibition
Agnes Pelton: The Desert Transcendentalist.
Visitors will see about fifty paintings by the American artist, master of abstract art and symbolism.
Agnes Pelton (1881–1961) was a symbolist visionary who portrayed the spiritual reality she experienced in moments of meditative silence. Art for her was a discipline with the help of which she formed her vision of higher consciousness in the universe. For most of her career, Pelton preferred to live away from the "big world", so her work was unknown to the general public during the artist's lifetime. Now museum visitors have a unique opportunity to see the artist's works from the collection of the Whitney, Phoenix and private collections.
