The Massachusetts Museum of Modern Art (MASS MoCA) hosts an exhibition Louise Bourgeois.
Visitors will get acquainted with the work of the French-American artist and sculptor Louise Josephine Bourgeois (December 25, 1911 - May 31, 2010), who became famous for her large-scale sculptures and installations.
Louise Bourgeois described her artistic practice as an attempt to overcome all the upheavals that tormented her - psychologically, personally, artistically - and to find perfect harmony. In her works, human anatomy and sexuality are often mentioned, in some cases openly, and in others more subtly, through organic and ambiguous forms. Her work includes drawings, paintings, textiles, embroideries, sculptures and installations on a scale from a few inches to completely immersive environments. The works range between quirky and grotesque, menacing and caring, highlighting Bourgeois's exploration of the polarities of emotion.
