The South Australian Art Gallery hosts an exhibition
“Chromatopia. Color Research ".
The exhibition features recently acquired works by contemporary artists from around the world, including Virginia Kuppage, Jitish Callat, Tracy Moffatt and Gareth Sansom; but she was inspired by rare works acquired more than half a century ago. Among them is The Harvest, painted by Laura Knight on the eve of World War II, which is still a tonic for our time and a source of inspiration for this “ghostly time travel”.
Francis Bacon wrote that "in the dark, all colors converge." The artist's mysterious joke hints at the influence that colors have on each other and on us. This exhibition explores how and why artists use color - for personal, political, philosophical purposes.
