Michael Belmore

Exhibition September 26, 2020 − November 21, 2021
Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), Toronto and Mary & Harry Jackman Gallery present exhibition Michael Belmore.

The works on display illustrate key themes in the author's creative practice: the identity and influence of North American settlers on the land, landscape, and its inhabitants.

Artist Michael Belmore is mainly involved in sculpture. He uses a variety of materials, including wood, stone and metals, and draws inspiration from his surroundings, exploring the dramatic implications for the modern human landscape. By choosing items and materials, Belmore deviates from the capitalist point of view, according to which nature is a commodity, something to be bought and sold.
