Lynette Yadom-Boakye is a British artist and writer known for her mysterious portraits of fictional people. This exhibition brings together over 80 works from 2003 to the present day and provides the most comprehensive overview of the artist's career to date.
The figures in Yadom-Boakye's paintings are not real people - she creates them from the images she found and her own imagination. Familiar and cryptic, they invite viewers to project their own interpretations and raise important questions of identity and representation. Her characters, who are often portrayed as spontaneous, with instinctive impulses, seem to exist outside of a particular time or place.
