Julie Chen. True life

Exhibition March 12 − June 30, 2021
The National Museum of Women's Art (NMWA) hosts an exhibition Julie Chen. True life ".

The exhibition features works by the world famous artist and educator Julie Chen, created over a 33-year career.

Chen's works are unique, elaborate books that challenge readers to do more than turn the pages to reveal her poetic reflections. Readers may be encouraged to peer through a tunnel created by layering of pages, or to flip an object or change structure in order to read text. The artist creates original sculptures from paper and other handmade materials, combining text and complex structures to convey her reflections on the passage of time, forms of joy and grief, human quest, discoveries and deeply personal concerns.
