War and peace in Russian art

Exhibition April 30, 2021 − April 24, 2022
The State Russian Museum in the halls of the branch in Malaga, Spain presents a large-scale exhibition "War and Peace in Russian Art".

The exhibition consists of 183 works that offer a holistic view from different points of view on the two antagonistic and essential poles of life.

Creativity and works of art on military themes were so important in Russia that they gave rise to a separate genre. Already in the Middle Ages, military motives could be seen in icon painting. German and French artists, closely associated with Russia, played a significant role in the formation and development of the Russian school of battle painting. In the second half of the 19th century, Russian artists, mainly belonging to the realistic school, took a predominant place in this genre.
