Sculptor Sarah Lebedev. Favorite

Exhibition June 2 − August 31, 2021
The State Tretyakov Gallery presents an exhibition in the halls of the Hermann Brachert House Museum "Sculptor Sarra Lebedeva. Favorites".

The exposition will allow visitors to get in touch with the work of the outstanding master of plastic art of the first half of the 20th century, Sarra Dmitrievna Lebedeva (1892-1967). The artist has long been a recognized classic; not a single historical review of Soviet art can do without mentioning her name. The exhibition includes sculptural portraits, sketches of monuments, and nude studies.

Sketches of the monuments are dedicated to outstanding politicians, great writers and poets, famous artists. The sculptor's projects are devoid of the external manifestation of heroism and pathos, but are made with an understanding of the laws of monumental art. For each of her heroes, the sculptor found the only correct pose, emphasizing both the character of the person being depicted and his mood. From the very beginning of her studies in sculpture, Lebedeva constantly sculpted and painted a nude body from life. At the exhibition you can see beautiful sketches made in the 1930-1950s. The figures are distinguished by noble simplicity, the absence of excessive detail.
