RENE LALIK: ART DECO FROM THE COLLECTION OF STEVEN AND ROSLIN SHULMAN

René Lalique's work has been widely recognized as the embodiment of the most chic and sophisticated qualities of French Art Deco styles. Lalique was an advocate of the strengths and possibilities of glass as an artistic medium, extending its use beyond the ubiquitous status of glass as an industrial material. René Lalique: The Art Deco Gems of the Stephen & Roslyn Schulman Collection, an incredible group of nearly 200 pieces, will introduce visitors to the Museum of Glass to the Lalique art and aesthetics that helped define the Art Deco movement in the early twentieth century. His understanding of the physical properties of glass, his willingness to embrace technology and his philosophical views on decorative arts paved the way for the Studio Glass movement and helped to change the public perception of glass as an artistic medium. Lalique's influence sheds light on understanding how artists use glass today and where glass should look in the future.
