From Georgia with love

Exhibition June 4 − August 31, 2021
Artmusa Museum of Contemporary Art invites you to visit the exhibition "From Georgia with love" (From Georgia with love).

This is one of the largest exhibitions of the new wave of contemporary Georgian artists. This is the first time the artists are exhibiting in such a group, and the main curatorial task is to present the St. Petersburg viewer a whole layer of modern Georgian tendencies in the visual arts, another side of authentic Georgian contemporary art, which has never before been seen in such a comprehensive way here. Among the authors of the paintings are Ilya BALAVADZE, Mikhail BALAVADZE, Merab SURVILADZE, Luiza LAPERADZE, Lana TSAGAREISHVILI, Archibald KORDZAYA, Natalia LASHKHI, David CHLADZE.

The exhibition project brings together works by seven acclaimed Georgian painters, and in this context a discreet historical reference is appropriate: many of the "russified" artists moved from Tbilisi to St. Petersburg with a wave of immigration in the 1980s-90s, forming an impressive community and continuing to preserve the traditions of classical, mostly figurative, painting, from the late 19th century Niko Pirosmani to the European old masters. In Tbilisi, however, contemporary art, bold and avant-garde, whose adherents are already known far beyond the borders of Georgia for their color, innovation and striking experiments, is gaining more and more momentum. Some of the key representatives of the second cohort will be presented at Artmuse, presenting a pictorial extract of contemporary Georgian art.
