Arrows of Cupid

The State Museum-Reserve Tsaritsyno is holding an exhibition "Arrows of Cupid."the author of the book, "The God of Love in Art and the Interpretation of the Symbolism of His Images," is a member of the Russian Academy of Arts and Sciences.

It was the image of the god of love that became one of the main themes of gallant century plastics. Numerous cupids adorned a variety of everyday objects and fashion accessories of the 18th century. Especially often they could be seen on fans - indispensable companions of social pastime - whose collection, belonging to the Ostankino Estate Museum, is one of the richest in Russia. The exposition presents only five fans, but all of them are masterpieces. For example, a folding fan-plier "Triumph of Galatea", made by an unknown French master in the 1760s from paper, tortoise shell, gilt and silver foil and decorated with paintings, carvings and embossing. In addition to fans at the exhibition you can see rare prints depicting Amur, vases, miniatures, snuff boxes and caskets from the collection of the Ostankino estate museum.

The exhibition "Arrows of Cupid" is located in the Opera House and is an addition to the collection of sculpture from the Ostankino Palace. Immortalized in stone, love in all its manifestations, accompanied by objects from the Ostankin collection, gives visitors the opportunity to take a fresh look at familiar subjects and decipher love symbolism through various images of mischievous cupids.
