Landscape in sculpture. Sculpture in landscape

Exhibition July 29 − September 30, 2021
The State Russian Museum is holding an exhibition in the Mikhailovsky Palace "Landscape in Sculpture. Sculpture in Landscape".

The exhibition brings together about 130 works from the collection of the Russian Museum and private collections. Along with sculptural works and samples of numismatics, the exhibition features paintings devoted to the portrayal of sculpture in the landscape.

In domestic sculpture in the second half of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, along with its traditional genres (portrait, figure, genre composition) increasingly appear still lifes and landscapes, previously represented only in painting and drawing. Moreover, the landscape in sculpture exists not only on the plane of relief. It actively enters the space and develops volumetric compositions. Modern sculptors, increasingly turning to the genre of landscape, find a variety of plastic interpretations - from the classical image of the landscape or urban environment to generalized compositions or installations.
