Farshad Fanzankia. If I stand up

Exhibition July 19, 2021 − February 27, 2022
The Arken Museum of Contemporary Art presents an exhibition "Farshad Fanzankia. If I Stand Up.".

In the exhibition, viewers will see new large-format canvases that the author has created in the last few years, colorful subjects that go back to the distant past, incorporating centuries-old traditions and critically examining our time. The title of the exhibition comes from Inger Christensen's poem "If I Stand Up" from the poetry collection "The Fox" (Light, 1962). For the artist, it is a poem about how anyone can stand up, cast a shadow and be present in the world.

Farzankia has also compiled many drawings and silkscreens into a huge collage titled During the Reign of Images (2018-21), the result of the last three years of his work. The drawings provide insight into the intuitive process that precedes each painting in Farzancia's practice. From the 13th-century Persian poet Rumi to Bob Dylan and Gunnar Ekelöf, from films by directors such as Ingmar Bergman, Jean-Luc Godard and Abbas Kiarostami, and from figure art from J.F. Willumsen to Andy Warhol: Farzankian paintings are created against a background of colossal, profound interest in the human expression of life, crossing time, continents and cultures.
