Slip: Reflection, Resilience and Resistance in the Art of Our Time

Exhibition May 14, 2021 − March 20, 2022
The Brooklyn Museum is holding an exhibition "Slip: Reflection, Resilience and Resistance in the Art of Our Time".

The focus is on the work of several generations of artists from the 1960s to the present day. The exhibition features over sixty works of art, divided into seven sections dealing with themes such as collective power, family ties, spiritual well-being, relationships with nature and the simple rituals of everyday life. Each of these works embodies strategies for staying grounded, gathering strength and contemplating paths to the future.

These days, the combination of the devastating effects of a pandemic, civil unrest in the United States, a controversial presidential election and uncontrolled climate change will constantly influence conversations about the state of the country and the world. The exhibition seeks to enable people to find reflections of their feelings in art: fear, grief, vulnerability, anger, isolation and despair as well as joy, determination and love.
