"In the exhibition hall of St. Nicholas Cathedral opened the exhibition "Alexander Nevsky in the fine arts. To the 800th anniversary of the birth of the prince". Canvases by famous artists of the XIX-XX centuries are waiting for visitors. The exhibition was prepared by the Patriarchal Council for Culture with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. It was organized by the Humanitarian Projects Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities Perspective, the State Museum and Exhibition Center ROSIZO and ART-Courier Ltd. We try to transport all works as carefully and accurately as possible for museums to give us new works, which will also travel around Russia in the future".

ALEXANDER NEVSKY IS ALIVE FOR US
Veliky Novgorod takes an art tour of masterpieces of Russian painting. An exhibition to mark the 800th anniversary of the Prince's birth opened in St. Nicholas Cathedral.
"...I would like to pay special attention to the painting by Fedor Fedorov, because here Alexander Nevsky is depicted as a young man, unaccustomed to us. The work by Pavel Dmitrievich Korin and the film by Eisenstein, where Nikolai Konstantinovich Cherkasov wonderfully played the part of the prince, convinced us that Alexander Nevsky was a mature enough man when he won his landmark battles. And here we see a completely young warrior, surrounded by wiser warriors".

ABSTRACT TO THE EXHIBITION "ALEXANDER NEVSKY IN THE FINE ARTS. TO THE 800TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PRINCE'S BIRTH"
"From the moment of the canonization in 1847 and up to the beginning of XX century Alexander Nevskiy was more often represented on icons and historical cloths as the sacred warrior. Only on the first images of XVI-XVII centuries he is represented in a monastic schema, further such icons were extremely rare. Artists were inspired by the prince's heroic image. The combination of masculinity and holiness, a fine knightly appearance and prayerful piety we see on the icons of the Rybinsk Museum-Reserve, the Yaroslavl Art Museum, the Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum. The last work of the famous academician V.K. Shebuev is also interesting because in the sublime image one can see some softened features of Emperor Nicholas I. Nowadays the search for national identity guides the masters of fine arts to the study of the heroic pages of Russian history, as well as the life and exploits of the Grand Duke Alexander Nevsky. The icons created by Irina Vinichenko and Marina Gracheva continue the best traditions of ancient Russian art. Historical genre in the spirit of Russian academism is successfully mastered by Fedor Fedorov. On his canvas "Take care of this land" painter Dmitry Zarva shows the pure soul of the prince as a child, who for the first time reveals the beauty of his native land. At the same time, in Sergei Marchenko's painting "Truth Behind Us!" we see the hero dragging the warriors behind him to meet the danger. Some of these works - works by M. Gracheva, D. Zarva and S. Marchenko - were created specially for the anniversary of Alexander Nevskiy and are demonstrated for the first time. Especially noteworthy are landscapes by an outstanding painter Peter Ossovsky. A native of Pskov region, he has forever imprinted in his heart the harsh beauty of the region. It is this beauty that inspired the exploits of the Grand Duke Alexander Nevsky and continues to inspire us to this day.
