Rubens. Depicting antiquity

Exhibition November 20, 2021 − January 24, 2022
The Getty Museum in the Halls of the Getty Villa invites you to visit the exhibition "Rubens. Depicting Antiquity.".

This exhibition, presented among the Getty Villa Antiquities Collection, juxtaposes the artist's fascinating drawings, oil sketches, and magnificent monumental paintings with rarely seen antiquities, including exquisite gems belonging to Rubens himself.

A passion for the art and literature of classical antiquity inspired the Flemish painter Pieter Paul Rubens (1577-1640). Heroic nudes, violent hunts, magnificent military processions and Bacchic feasts testify to the artist's extraordinary ability to translate multiple sources into new subjects.
