Fake? Fake!

Exhibition November 19, 2021 − May 2, 2022
The National Gallery, Prague holds an unusual and informative exhibition "Fake? Fake!".

The exhibition includes imitations of medieval paintings, sculptures and drawings, including fakes made in the style of Dutch masters of the 17th century, as well as imitations of paintings by famous European artists of the 19th century and early 20th century. There are also works that imitate non-European works of art, such as oriental carpets and works of applied art. Works on paper were not ignored either. At the exhibition, visitors will see several iconic forgeries from foreign collections that made their creators famous throughout the world.

The methods used to verify the authenticity of works of art will be explained to visitors in an easy and entertaining way. The exhibition also demonstrates and explains the difference between a replica, a copy, an imitation and a fake created for profit. Visitors will be treated to a large interactive part where they can try to spot a fake themselves.
