The Getty Museum is holding an exhibition
"Lost Frescoes of Renaissance Rome".
During the Renaissance, the facades of many prominent buildings were painted with elaborate castle frescoes. Once these images made up the dense fabric of city streets, only a small fraction of the masterpieces have survived in modern times.
Outstanding works from the Getty Collection, including the famous "Early Years of Thaddeo Zuccari," a series of drawings in which frescoes play a central role, illustrate this popular Renaissance phenomenon to visitors.
