Irina Potapenko. Basement Chronicle

Exhibition June 25 − October 30, 2022
Odessa Municipal Museum of Personal Collections. A.V. Bleschunov is holding its first exhibition since the beginning of the war Irina Potapenko "Basement Chronicle".

The exhibition includes a series of paintings "Alice in the Destroyed City" and illustrations for the new book about the war in Ukraine.

"It was during the first month of the war. My husband made a basement in our house with ventilation and a second exit to the street. We have two dogs and four cats, so there are a lot of scenes with animals in the paintings,- said Irina, - I strive to convey not so much the beauty, but the harmony of war. Not everyone, of course, has a basement in the country, where you can hide during an air raid, many, I know, just run into the corridor. And my husband and I sit in the basement, and there I also draw on a tablet. It's a time when civic attitudes are concentrated along with artistic ideas. Besides Alice, I see Dorothy and Totoshka, the characters of "The Wizard in Oz" in the war situation: the house rises up, and the wind carries it to Ukraine, to Mariupol, in the year 2022...".
