Francesco Rustici. Allegory of Painting and Architecture

Exhibition May 7 − August 7, 2022
Uffizi Gallery holds an exhibition "Francesco Rustici. Allegory of Painting and Architecture".

The project is dedicated to the work of Francesco Rusticino, known as Rusticino (Siena, 1592-1626) and his family - two generations of artists working in Casole d'Elsa: father Vincenzo, uncle Cristofano, uncle Alessandro Casolani and cousin Hilario.

One of the key paintings in the exhibition, Allegory of Painting and Architecture, was made for the Medici family around 1621 - 1622: two young women, personifications of painting and architecture, are identified by attributes typical of the two arts, namely drawing, brushes and circles. The canvas is exhibited in comparison to Rustici's work, in which St. Catherine exchanges her heart with Jesus.
