In the Museum and exhibition complex "New Jerusalem", an exhibition of works by Boris Kustodiev
"Crown of the earth color". The exhibition features more than 60 paintings of great Russian artist of thirteen leading museums in the country: Kazan, Voronezh, Kostroma, Vladimir, Ivanovo, Krasnodar, Saratov, Nizhny Novgorod, Cheboksary, Moscow and St. Petersburg. In addition, part of the works for the exhibition were provided by private collectors, recommended by the auction house Sotheby's.
The exhibition opens the series of events dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the birth of Boris Kustodiev – master, whose name is inseparably connected with the traditions of Russian culture. On this basis, the main focus of the exhibition is made on paintings devoted to the Russian merchants, domestic scenes and festive celebrations.
The leitmotif of the exhibition are the lines of Alexander Blok: "the People – the crown of earthly colors, the beauty and joy of all colours...". Therefore, the exhibits are grouped not chronologically, but focus on key themes in the works of Kustodiev: holidays, "Russian types", portraits.
Visual material of the exhibition demonstrates how evolved the artist's work in one of the topics, from rare sketches for a diploma painting "Market in the village" (sorry, the picture is not preserved) to the "carnival" (collection of the State Russian Museum) and "the Fair in Kineshma" (Private collection). From small, quite traditional portraits of family and classmates – to large-scale portraits Kustodiev emotionality, specificity, flavor.
Russian province, people's holidays – in each theme, the organizers tried to show the famous paintings, rare, not often exhibited works.
