"The Beast" by Olga Tamkovich. Lithography, watercolor, graphics

Exhibition September 15, 2023
The exhibit will present two visual stories from Sept. 14-21

"The Beast" is a series of lithographs with additional lettering on rice paper. The sheets of the series refer to the legends of the Arthurian cycle, European fairy tale tradition and Greek mythology.

Here the hero-knight, having once broken his vows, finds himself caught in a labyrinth of his own cruelty. Like any man capable of taking up the sword, he encounters an inner beast that eventually consumes him. The project raises questions of blind dogma and the justification of violence. The lithograph sheets are made in Alexei Baranov's printmaking workshop.

"Rebirth" - the second series, made in mixed technique on the basis of watercolor graphics. The works show the natural way of birth and death, which always ends with the return to new life. The project was completed in the spring of 2022.
