Degas: Passion for Excellence
Exhibition February 11 − May 20, 2018
Denver Museum of Art presents an exhibition Degas: Passion for Excellence. The exhibition demonstrates both known and less popular works of the French artist Edgar Degas for the period from 1855 to 1906. Visitors will be able to see more than 100 works by the famous master, among them paintings, drawings, pastels, engravings, monotypes and bronze sculptures. Exhibits for the exhibition are provided by many famous world museums, as well as private collectors.
The exhibition focuses on the most visible and repetitive themes of Deg's 60-year-old creative career. These include his interest in studying the art of past centuries, lifelong charm naked in nature, a passion for horses and his enduring love of opera and dance.
Visitors will see the transformation of Degas from the portraitist and painter of historical themes, to the artist who sings the modern life of Paris in the late 19th century. Experimenting constantly throughout the creative path, he developed his methods and techniques, which enabled him to capture quickly and precisely such everyday moments as cafe-concerts, street scenes with new electric lighting, sports events and theatrical productions.
In addition to works by Edgar Degas, among the exhibits are the works of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, Eugene Delacroix and Paul Cezanne.
The exhibition "Degas: Passion for Excellence" is presented and organized together with Museum of Fitzwilliamat Cambridge University, England.
