Guernica. To the 80 anniversary of creation

Exhibition March 27 − July 29, 2018
Exhibition "Guernica" organized by the Picasso Museum in Paris in conjunction with the Reina Sofia in Madrid dedicated to the 80th anniversary of one of the world's most famous works of Pablo Picasso. Their permanent place masterpiece has acquired in the Spanish capital in 1992.

This monumental work, written in 1937, has become a cultural icon and a synthesis of the plastic research, which Picasso spent the next 40 years. Exposed and replicated across the planet, the picture became a symbol of anti-Franco and anti-fascist movement, the emblem of peace. It is also one of the most frequently cited, commented on and borrowed works of art.

Due to the exceptional loans from the Reina Sofia, which provided a lot of sketches and postscripts to Guernica, the exhibition reminds viewers of the context of the artwork. It highlights the shock that followed the bombing of the town Guernica in the Basque Country on 26 April 1937. In turn, the national archives of France has offered a selection of posters from the Fund Brigades.
